AAUP-SC Stands with Faculty at South Carolina State University

We commend the Faculty Senate of South Carolina State University for the seriousness and courage with which they are raising concerns about the climate at their institution for academic freedom, shared governance, and due process, as articulated in the Faculty Senate’s No Confidence resolution passed on August 25, 2026. We stand with the AAUP-SCSU chapter in affirming the SCSU Faculty Senate’s right and duty to raise such concerns. We join the chapter’s call for the SCSU Board of Trustees to address the Faculty Senate’s concerns in a meaningful and timely way. Academic freedom, shared governance, and due process are the foundational principles that make higher education work for all South Carolinians and we support our colleagues' efforts to defend those principles.
