AAUP Multi-Chapter Social and Solidarity Event Joins Three Campuses in SC!
The AAUP chapters at USC-Upstate, Spartanburg Community College, and Wofford College jointly hosted a social event on 29 September at Fr8yard in Spartanburg. About 30 faculty from across the three campuses turned out to show solidarity and to hear from two speakers.
Tessie Holliday of Freedom to Read Spartanburg talked about and requested support for her organization's efforts to fight back against attempted book bans in Spartanburg schools.
Josh Malkin of the ACLU spoke about the legislative landscape in Columbia, especially as it pertains to academic freedom. And several people pledged to join AAUP at the event! We hope to hold another event like this later this semester.
